Terms of service

Last updated October 8, 2026

These terms apply to anyone using this website. Clients' service is governed by their signed service agreement, which takes priority over these terms where the two differ.

The service

Hey Lantern sets up an automated phone assistant that answers a business's calls when no one on staff picks up. It collects the caller's information and sends it to the business. It is not an emergency service and does not replace 911. In a potential emergency, the assistant tells callers to contact 911 or their utility.

What the assistant does not do

The assistant does not quote prices, diagnose problems, schedule guaranteed arrival times, or take payments. Information it gives about a client's business comes from what the client provides to us.

Accuracy

Speech recognition and AI can make mistakes, such as mishearing a name or number. The assistant reads numbers back to reduce errors, and clients receive the call recording or transcript to check details.

Payment and renewal

Service is paid yearly, upfront, as described in the client's agreement. Service does not renew automatically. We contact clients before the end of each term to ask whether they'd like to renew.

Refunds

If call forwarding cannot be set up on a client's phone line during setup, the client receives a full refund. Other refunds are handled as described in the client's agreement.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount the client paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for lost business or indirect damages, including from missed, dropped or mis-transcribed calls, or from outages at our phone, AI or hosting providers.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey.
